What is the next big thing in network marketing?

The next big thing is the one that makes the last big thing usable.  Blake Ross (Founder-Firefox)

Are you always looking for the nextbig thing’ in network marketing?  It seems everyday, every hour, someone has a new fantastic  product that is in pre-launch and if you don’t get in you can’t win! How many times have you heard, “this is the Turn Key system that will make you rich?”

Do you need the “Next Big Thing” to succeed in network marketing?

If you follow Blake Ross’ quotation the answer is yes. Tim Sanders, the former Chief Solutions Office at Yahoo, and founder of research firm Deeper Media Incorporated says to succeed in the new economy (network marketing) you need a killer application. Since there is not a standard definitions for a killer app, his definition of a killer app is an excellent new idea that either supersedes an existing idea or establishes a new category in its field. The idea becomes so popular that it devastates the original business model.

What is the killer app that will enable you to succeed in  network marketing?  Simply put love is the killer app. Love is the act of intelligently and sensibility sharing your intangibles with your biz-partners. You shift from a me-first,  Love is the Killer App Tim Sandersbottom line rules way of doing business to a way that is in line with what sales guru Jeffrey Gitomer says about always creating value first. You become a selfless promoter of the growth of others.  Sanders calls one who follows this way of doing business a “Lovecat”.

The keys to being a “Lovecat” are your following  intangibles.

Knowledge which is everything you have learned and everything you continue to learn. All you have picked up building you business and all the things you have taught yourself through reading.  Think of your brain as a kind of piggy bank. It is valuable currency.

Network your valuable web of relationships.  In the twenty-first century, your success is based on the people you know.  Kevin Kelly, in his book “The New Rules for The New Economy” says the following:

Mathematics says the sum value of a network increases as the square of the number of members. In other words, as the number of nodes in a network increases arithmetically, the value of the network increases exponentially.* Adding a few more members can dramatically increase the value for all members.

The more people in your network, the more powerful your network

Compassion is the way you win hearts and influence business in the New Economy. It is the personal quality that machines can never possess, the human ability to reach out with warmth, a unique feature of network marketing. People are hungry for compassion.  There is never enough for it.  The tougher the times are, the more important it become.

Being a “Lovecat” works because it is based on a law that changed Jim Rohn’s life forever in network marketing.  He learned the law of sowing and reaping.  This life changing law says, if you need love, give love. If you need compassion, give compassion.  If you commit yourself to helping people, people will commit themselves to you.

A few benefits of being a Lovecat.

  • You build an out standing brand as a person to differentiate yourself.

  • You create an experience.

  • You have access to people’s attention

  • You do not have to self-boast.

  • You build relationships with a deep level of trust.

Now let Tim tell you about being a “Lovcat” in this video 7:08)

  • Thank you Perry! Your article is spot on.

The “next big thing” concept rages on and something always comes out the is “better”. It will never end. The most rewarding thing to do is provide useful information that helps others and I always find that when I visit your blog.

  • Having compassion for oneself is really no different than having compassion for others. Bottom line, it is that relationship between persons or things wherein whatever affects one similarly affects the other. I enjoyed your blog, great concept to share with the world.

  • Hi Perry,

This is my first time here and what a treat! Killer post and excellent points. I especially loved the point about compassion. You are absolutely right, people are starving for compassion. You can’t find that in machines or systems it’s only possible through one-on-one. People have been tuned into the WIFM (what’s in it for me) station way too long.

Awesome, awesome post, loved it! Thanks so much for sharing it!

  • Hi Perry,

this is my first visit on your blog and I was referred by Donna Merrill. I love what I see. As a matter of fact, which industry other than network marketing would be better suited to practise being a love cat and sharing our knowledge freely without expectations ? Love is a killer app and it hopefully prevents us from searching for some shiny and bright “killer app” outside of us.

Thanks for sharing your insights and the great video. Yeah, it’s about getting our heart back.

    Cheers

  • Killer post Perry (as usual) Yes, it is a new economy and the power of giving is the most important thing in marketing. I like the term “Lovecat” because it is a catchy phrase that says it all.
Reading this post applies reminds me of living a lifestyle of giving. Walking the walk not talking the talk as some say. Give without expectation. Give with all of your heart to your audience. Pour out your knowledge and passion the best you can. The secret is: don’t even think of getting anything back. Rather trust that you will be given gifts beyond your dreams.
I walk that path and am always surprised how much I receive. But when I do, I am thankful. I kind of give a wink at God!
Thank you Perry for your inspiration.

    • Donna, this statement “The secret is: don’t even think of getting anything back. Rather trust that you will be given gifts beyond your dreams.” is the key to effective giving. Bob Burg and John David Mann authors of The Go-Giver describe this as one of the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success. It is the Law of Receptivity, that says the key to effective giving is giving is to stay open to receiving. Thanks for your comment.

  • Perry, this is my second visit.

I felt compelled to give more on this fantastic subject of being a love cat.

I found that building a relationship with each person bonded on support. You celebrate their being with them by giving your time and hand support. People want to feel needed and surrounded by compassion is a key.

Find the emotional triggers in supporting each person will keep a strong bond with them. You must be transparent in all things and just let people know how better your life is with them involved. Giving them purpose and empowering them to feel hope again.

Being yourself a true people person with a huge heart to share love. We know there are different levels of love so really get to know people and it will manifest one of the naturally.

Thanks again Perry for being open and sharing useful content. I had to come back and leave more. Looking forward to your next article.

  • Hi Perry,

This is an excellent post. I want to buy his book after watching the Tom Sanders video!

Relationships are everything and there is nothing better than knowing that you have helped a person find purpose. A lot of us are seeking our own personal purpose and love is the answer. The feeling of connection with other people is fundamental to one of the positives of being human.

I think being a “lovecat” is a great idea and I agree that the next best thing is people. This is one of the reasons Social Media is so popular. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone had this mindset?

I loved what Clare said, “Network marketing is a love business!”

What a wonderful post. It truly inspired me i a number of ways. Love truly is the killer app. People and their intangible assets are the things that last as Tim said at the end of his video, and through connecting and sharing our knowledge freely we build a better world. I loved what he said about making books our own, and utilizing the blank pages in the front and back!! Some parents said to never to ruin a book by writing in it, which I think is bad advice! Think of all the amazing insights we lose while we read a great book!
My books are underlined, highlighted, and so on.
It’s an interesting concept to ponder, whether a business could flourish on the core principle of love. I do believe it can, and I can think of several that do, including my own. When you come from a place of loving your organization first, and thinking of the monetary gain second, everything seems to fall into place. If you put money first, almost always, people get hurt.
    Great stuff to think about

I love this article! Network marketing is a love business! You need to love people and love sharing products if you are going to crack this industry. It is all about relationships and for relationships to work, there has to be a high level of trust. Even in this community, we create that, you know who you can rely upon. Perry, you are one of those people who is consistent in your support of others. Thank you for that. I appreciate you.

  • Perry,
Your on top of the most valued subject this week. Yes, knowledge is great and then we need to apply it. We can listen and learn daily yet if we do not take action we are wasting good content.

Supporting others and getting to their emotional needs goes further than anything else. Show others how valuable they are and needed. That is what people want. To feel they are needed and hear how valuable they are as one of the team members.

I know we are lifetime students and coaches. We can waste time learning too much and never apply all that knowledge which leaves us with a head full of junk.

Allot of people gather in groups just to brainstorm and no one ever has a plan of actions. I mean they spend two times a week talking with no on ever doing anything with what was learned. Feeling good after meeting with that mastermind is amazing. Yet, if that is all you get out of it. Your wasting valued time.

Peter, your a great coach and one everyone is blessed to learn from. You make learning easy and then you show us how to use this information. That is different than allot of people out here.

I want to thank you for all the supportive information you have shared. I look forward in hearing more from you and be able to apply all learned.

  • Truly, Perry, the new economy is one of people rather than commodities.

You point this out clearly, and the Tim Sanders video certainly supports what you outlined for us.

He especially underscores the idea that while knowledge and “content” are the first thing you need to develop, it’s really the “network” or community that makes that knowledge relevant.

This is especially true when you are able to bring your compassion to the community table.

And so often they are teaching themselves to really dislike their lives. But starting from a position of giving and from being a lovecat (I love that word) makes everything about your world a different experience.

Thank you Perry for a great post. :-)

  • Perry…Isn’t it interesting that so many people get so cranked up about the “next big thing in MLM”? The “Next big thing” should always be he same thing…themselves. People seem to always be on the lookout for the quick and easy. Instead, they should be getting their hands dirty in the trenches…get out there and work…prospect and network. Brand yourself and the the next “ground floor opportunity of a billion dollar debt-free company with the best product and comp plan”. Make yourself the “Next Big Thing” and it will not matter what company you work with…

I agree that people are what this is all about. Building relationships and networking is the way to find the type of people you want to associate with.

As regards MLM, the fact is that AMWAY had huge growth last year. It has been around a long time. It is not a company I am with, but if you want long term residual income, pick a good company and stick with them like glue. Same with your relationships.
